WireGuard on NymVPN
A huge milestone has been reached for NymVPN: the WireGuard protocol is now live on the Fast Mode for most apps and operating systems, with Windows to be launched shortly.
Why is this so important? Decentralized and independent routing is absolutely crucial for privacy, but this inevitably creates latencies with most encrypted routing protocols. Every stop your traffic makes slows things down, requiring independent servers to decrypt before forwarding your data to its intended destination. WireGuard utilizes a streamlined codebase and state-of-the-art encryption protocols. While not designed specifically for decentralized routing, the Nym dev team has succeeded in adapting WireGuard to a tunnel-in-tunnel protocol for enhanced privacy on NymVPN’s Fast Mode, a 2-server network to complement the app’s 5-server Anonymous Mode.
